Extension leads: reach, cable cross-section and earthing

Domestic Material extension leads increase the distance from a socket to an appliance using a fitted cable. The reviewed references are listed for indoor domestic or commercial use. Choose the required length, earth provision and permitted assembly load.

The specified H05VV-F cables are PVC types. The designation 3G includes a protective conductor; 2×1 mm² means two conductors without earth. Orange colour does not establish outdoor suitability or an IP rating. Follow product markings, appliance requirements and safety instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 2P lead supply an appliance requiring earth?

It cannot maintain a protective earth conductor. Such appliances need a suitable assembly with a protective conductor and compatible earth contacts.

Does a longer lead allow more power?

Length does not increase the permitted load. Select the reach needed and respect the lowest applicable limit of the lead, socket and circuit.

Are the orange 6710 leads suitable outdoors?

6710 and 6710/25 data sheets specify indoor use and H05VV-F cable. Do not infer outdoor suitability from colour; use a solution expressly suitable for damp or outdoor conditions.
