S24 10 kA MCBs: references and distribution-board space
Solera S24 10 kA miniature circuit breakers protect against overloads and short circuits in circuits whose design requires a 10 kA breaking capacity. The S24MG family includes 2P, 3P and 4P configurations with different current ratings and modular widths. Selection for residential, commercial or distribution boards depends on the circuit and prospective short-circuit current, not simply the application sector.

What to check when moving from 6 kA to 10 kA
Compare breaking capacity at the operating voltage, rated current, poles, trip curve and connection arrangement. A 10 kA breaking capacity does not increase the circuit’s permissible operating current or remove the need for conductor protection. It does not provide residual current or surge protection either.
Curve C is specified for the S24MG 6–63 A variants reviewed. For 80, 100 and 125 A versions, confirm the curve in the specific documentation before selection. Allow for the actual width: some 2P versions occupy three modules and some 4P versions six. Also check reference availability, terminals and suitable accessories.
Frequently asked questions
Can a 16 A, 10 kA S24MG supply a 10,000 A load?
No. The 16 A value is its rated current; 10 kA is the declared short-circuit breaking capacity under the device’s stated conditions. The two ratings serve different purposes.
Do all four-pole S24MG breakers occupy four modules?
No. The 16 A S24MG416 occupies four modules, whereas the 125 A S24MG4125 occupies six. There are differences in 2P versions too: S24MG206 occupies two modules and S24MG2125 three. Always check the complete reference.
Does selecting 10 kA guarantee selectivity with upstream protection?
No. Breaking capacity does not establish selectivity or coordination between devices. Check these against the characteristics and documentation of the specific devices and the installation conditions.
